"Civ 7 VR Exclusive to Meta Quest 3, Aims for Improved UI"
Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is set to revolutionize the gaming experience with its VR version, slated for release this Spring 2025. Dive into the exciting features of Civ 7 VR and catch up on the latest updates for the entire Civ 7 series.
Civilization 7 VR Exclusively on Meta Quest 3
Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 (Civ 7) will be exclusively available on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Announced during the Civ World Summit Event on February 8, 2025, this marks the franchise’s first foray into virtual and mixed reality gaming, courtesy of 2K Games and Firaxis Games.
Civ 7 Executive Franchise Producer Dennis Shirk expressed his excitement in a 2K blog post about the imminent launch, stating, We're just days away now from the full launch of Civilization VII and look forward to ushering in a new era of strategy excellence for our fans!
Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, With the recent release of Meta Quest 3S and our strongest games and entertainment portfolio yet, it’s an awesome time for mixed reality. Civilization VII - VR is further evidence of that momentum: it’s a genuine Civ experience made specifically for deep strategy fans.
While Civ 7 is available on PlayStation consoles, the VR version will not be released on PSVR2 at this time.
Board-Game Like Construction and Online Multiplayer
Civ 7 VR immerses players in a Command Table environment, allowing them to navigate the world and strategize as if playing a tabletop game. Players can switch between immersive virtual reality and mixed reality modes, experiencing an ornate museum in VR or adapting the Command Table to their physical space in MR.
The game supports single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes, accommodating up to four players using Meta Quest 3 or 3S headsets. Players can mix AI-controlled opponents with friends in collaborative or competitive play, seeing each other as their chosen world leaders across the Command Table. Online multiplayer requires a 2K Account and a Meta Account.
Firaxis Games Respond to Player Feedback
Firaxis Games has actively responded to feedback from the early access period of Civ 7, which began on February 6, 2025, for Deluxe and Founder’s Edition buyers. The game, which has garnered mixed reviews on Steam, faced criticism regarding its User Interface, making it challenging for players to access key gameplay information.
In response, Firaxis Games has committed to enhancing the UI, stating their focus on "making UI interactions more intuitive, improving map readability, fixing areas of polish like formatting, and more." They are also considering community-requested features such as adding teams to multiplayer games and expanding map variety.
A quality-of-life update is scheduled for March, which will include "quality-of-life UI adjustments, ongoing AI balance and improvement, adjustments to diplomacy and crises, plus additional bug fixes."
Civilization 7 VR is expected to launch in Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with no specific release date yet announced. Meanwhile, Civilization 7 is currently in early access and will see its worldwide release on February 11, 2025, across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
