Ananta Unveiled: Developers Release New Trailer
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG developed by Naked Rain and published by NetEase? Well, buckle up because the game has officially undergone a name change and is now known as Ananta. Initially announced back in August 2023 at Gamescom, fans have been eagerly waiting for updates, and after what felt like an eternity, a new trailer has finally been released. Mark your calendars for December 5th, as more exciting details are on the horizon. In the meantime, don't miss out on the official trailer for Project Mugen, now known as Ananta.
Why the Name Change?
The developers have kept mum about the reasons behind the name change. Interestingly, Ananta, which means "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligns perfectly with the original name, Mugen, which also means "infinite." The Chinese name further reinforces this theme of infinity. The gaming community is divided on this new moniker, but one thing's for sure—everyone's relieved to see that the project is still very much alive.
Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and another upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness by Hotta Studio. While Ananta's new trailer is undeniably slick, it disappointingly doesn't offer a glimpse of actual gameplay. This has led many players to favor Neverness to Everness, though I personally find Ananta's visuals more appealing.
Here’s Where Things Get Weird, Though
In a surprising move, Team Project Mugen has wiped all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel that boasted over 100k subscribers and videos that garnered millions of views. They've retained the Discord server and simply renamed it, but everything else has been started anew. This decision has left many gamers scratching their heads, as it would have been simpler to just rename the existing accounts.
In Project Mugen, now Ananta, you'll step into the shoes of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator tasked with tackling paranormal chaos. The game features a diverse cast of characters, including Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
