11 Bit Studios Compares This War of Mine to The Alters
Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In a nostalgic move, the studio also took a moment to reminisce about their critically acclaimed wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which thrust them into the global spotlight over a decade ago.
This War of Mine is renowned for its stark and somber setting, whereas The Alters introduces a more spirited and frequently humorous narrative. This new game revolves around the trials of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep-seated connection between the two titles.
Though the settings and atmospheres of the games differ significantly, both are anchored in the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of war within a besieged city, managing scarce resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group alive. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile territories in search of vital resources. The primary distinction between the two lies in their protagonists: This War of Mine has players guiding a group of ordinary civilians, while The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, offering players an immediate chance to dive into this innovative survival experience.
