Spotify Stream Milestone: Video Game Song Soars to 100 Million

Doom's "BFG Division" Reaches 100 Million Spotify Streams, Underscoring the Franchise's Enduring Impact

Mick Gordon's iconic "BFG Division" from the 2016 Doom reboot has achieved a remarkable milestone: 100 million streams on Spotify. This achievement highlights not only the enduring popularity of the game, but also the lasting power of its metal-infused soundtrack.

The Doom franchise holds a significant place in gaming history. The original game revolutionized the first-person shooter genre in the 90s, establishing many conventions still prevalent today. Its continued success is largely attributed to its thrilling gameplay and the instantly recognizable, heavy metal-driven soundtrack.

Composer Mick Gordon's contribution to the 2016 reboot solidified this legacy. His tweet announcing "BFG Division's" impressive Spotify count underscores the track's popularity.

Streaming Success Reflects Doom's Enduring Legacy

Gordon's work on Doom includes many of the game's most memorable heavy metal tracks, perfectly complementing the fast-paced action. He further contributed to the series with his work on Doom Eternal.

Gordon's compositional talents extend beyond Doom, encompassing other prominent FPS franchises. His credits include Bethesda titles like Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus (also developed by id Software) and even Gearbox's Borderlands 3.

However, despite his significant contributions to the Doom franchise, Gordon will not be composing for the upcoming Doom: The Dark Ages. He cited creative differences and production challenges during Doom Eternal as the reason for his departure. These issues, in his view, compromised the quality of his work on that installment.
