PS5 Controller Revolution: Sony Patents Tech Predicting Gamer Moves
Sony's Latest Patents: AI-Powered Prediction and a DualSense Gun Attachment
Sony has filed two intriguing patents aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. These innovations involve an AI-powered camera to predict player actions and a gun-style attachment for the DualSense controller.
AI-Driven Lag Reduction:
The "Timed Input/Action Release" patent describes a system using a camera to monitor the player and controller. AI, specifically a machine learning model, analyzes this footage to anticipate the player's next button presses. Alternatively, the system could interpret "incomplete controller actions" to infer player intent. This predictive capability aims to minimize lag in online games by preemptively processing inputs.
Enhanced Gunplay with DualSense Attachment:
A second patent details a trigger attachment designed to make in-game gunfights more realistic. Players would hold the DualSense controller sideways, mimicking a firearm grip, with the R1 and R2 buttons serving as sights. Pulling the trigger simulates firing. The patent suggests compatibility with other devices, including the PSVR2 headset.
Sony's Patent Portfolio:
This is just the latest addition to Sony's extensive patent library. With a significant portion of its patents active, Sony consistently explores innovative gaming technologies, including adaptive difficulty, DualSense controller variants with integrated earbuds, and temperature-sensitive controllers. However, it's important to remember that patents don't guarantee product release. Only time will tell if these concepts translate into commercially available products.
