Pokémon GO consistently delivers exciting monthly events, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the ever-popular weekly Spotlight Hours. These events feature a single Pokémon, offering increased catch rates and shiny possibilities. Here's the lowdown on this week's event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

Mark your calendars! The Spotlight Hour runs from 6 PM to 7 PM Local Time on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. This week's spotlight shines on Voltorb and its Hisuian counterpart, doubling the shiny hunting opportunities. Both Pokémon offer significant combat advantages, especially when extra damage is needed.

With two Pokémon featured, prepare for a double catch! Stock up on Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense to maximize your chances of catching shinies and powering up your collection. Also, clear some space in your Pokémon storage – you'll be catching a lot!

Voltorb (#100, Kanto Region):

Voltorb, the Kanto region's #100 Pokémon, is tradable and transferable to Pokémon HOME. Catching it yields 3 candies and 100 Stardust. It evolves into Electrode with 50 candies. With a max CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb packs a punch.

As an Electric-type, Voltorb is weak against Ground-type attacks (160% damage) but resists Electric, Flying, and Steel-type attacks (63% damage). Its optimal moveset is Spark (Electric) and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack power. A blue shiny variant awaits!

Hisuian Voltorb (#100, Kanto Region):

Hisuian Voltorb shares Voltorb's Pokédex number (#100) and region (Kanto), and also offers trading and Pokémon HOME transfer capabilities. Evolution into Hisuian Electrode requires 50 candies, with each catch rewarding 3 candies and 100 Stardust. Its stats mirror Voltorb's (1141 CP, 111 Defense, 109 Attack). It's also Electric-type.

The key difference lies in its type matchups. Hisuian Voltorb takes increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison-type attacks (160% damage), while resisting Grass, Steel, and Water-type attacks (63% damage) and other Electric-type attacks (39% damage). Its best moveset is Tackle (Normal) and Thunderbolt (Electric), yielding 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather enhance its damage output. Look for the shiny variant with a black body instead of orange.
