Oswald the Lucky Rabbit Series from Jon Favreau in the Works for Disney+

Disney veteran Jon Favreau is teaming up with Disney+ to bring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to life in a new series. Favreau, known for his expertise in blending live-action and animation, will write and produce this exciting project. While plot details and casting remain under wraps, the series promises a fresh take on this iconic character.

Oswald's history with Disney is a fascinating one. Created by Walt Disney himself, Oswald was the original Disney mascot, starring in 26 silent cartoons from 1927 to 1928. A rights dispute led to his departure and the subsequent creation of Mickey Mouse. Disney reacquired the rights to Oswald in 2006, and in 2022, released a new short featuring the character after a 95-year hiatus. This new series marks a significant step in Oswald's return to prominence. While a release date hasn't been announced, the project is clearly a priority for Disney.

PlayFavreau's involvement with Disney extends beyond Oswald. He's a key figure in the Star Wars universe, working on projects like *The Mandalorian*, *Skeleton Crew*, and *Ahsoka*. His contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe span 15 years, and he directed the 2019 *Lion King* remake. He's also set to direct *The Mandalorian* and Grogu's theatrical release in 2026.

Interestingly, Oswald's recent appearance in the 2023 horror film, Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole, starring Ernie Hudson, highlights the enduring appeal of this classic character, even outside of the Disney universe.
