MultiVersus Servers Shutting Down in May

Author : Hannah Update : Mar 13,2025

Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its last, bringing the Warner Bros. platform fighter to a close on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio revealed the news in a blog post on its website, detailing the discontinuation of support for the crossover brawler. Launched on May 28, 2024, MultiVersus will enter its final season, Season 5, on February 4th, concluding its run in May 2025. Online play will end at that time, but Player First Games assures players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline via local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support, stating, “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions for MultiVersus have ceased as of January 31st, 2025. However, players can still utilize Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until support ends on May 30th. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

MultiVersus’ closure follows reports of the project being a significant financial underperformer for Warner Bros. Discovery. A November financial call revealed a $100 million writedown for the game, contributing to a larger $300 million writedown in the games sector, following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This financial downturn also coincided with the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad. Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels stated during the November call, "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline.”

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will introduce new content, including playable characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman. Lola Bunny will be unlockable via a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available through the battle pass, both launching next week.
