Jason Momoa Hints at Lobo's Role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," slated for release in June 2026. This marks Momoa's transition from the old DC cinematic universe to the newly rebooted DCU.
Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality. He is the last survivor of his world, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in "Omega Men #3" back in 1983. Momoa has expressed his enthusiasm for the role, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character and highlighting the aesthetic similarities between himself and the character.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared insights into Lobo's appearance in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." He emphasized his excitement and nervousness about playing a character he's long admired. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa stated. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When asked about Lobo's screen time in the movie, Momoa clarified that while "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is primarily Supergirl's story, Lobo will make a notable but brief appearance. "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," he explained.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, announcing the start of filming for "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." The film draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's "Superman," which is set to hit theaters this summer. Another DCU film featuring Clayface is scheduled for September 2026.
