Dragon Quest X Mobile Launch Exclusive to Japan
Long-time fans of the Dragon Quest series are in for a treat, at least if they're based in Japan. The latest installment, Dragon Quest X, which has often been overshadowed by its MMORPG-like features, is set to launch on mobile devices with offline functionality. Starting tomorrow, Japanese fans can dive into Dragon Quest X Offline on both iOS and Android platforms, available for a premium purchase.
As reported by Gematsu, this offline version of Dragon Quest X offers a single-player experience, a departure from the original's multiplayer focus. It's a significant move, considering the game's initial release back in 2012 and the offline version's debut on consoles and PC in 2022. For those with a sense of nostalgia, it's worth noting that Ubitu had plans to bring Dragon Quest X to mobile as far back as 2013, though those plans never came to fruition.
Dragon Quest X stands out in the series with its real-time combat and other MMORPG elements, which are less common in other Dragon Quest titles. While the offline version on mobile is a welcome addition for Japanese fans, the prospects for a global release remain uncertain. The original game was exclusive to Japan, and there's currently no solid news on an international rollout for the mobile version.
As a dedicated Dragon Quest enthusiast, having spent countless hours on classics like Sentinels of the Starry Sky, the idea of experiencing a different take on the series on mobile is incredibly appealing. It's a missed opportunity for fans outside Japan, but hope remains that Square Enix might reconsider a global launch.
