DC Director Seeks MCU Star for New Project
James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for frequently casting his friends in his projects. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Pom Klementieff, has confirmed ongoing discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.
The DCU aims to create a successful shared universe, learning from the missteps of the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU). While the DCEU had box office successes, inconsistencies and studio interference hampered its overall coherence. Gunn, renowned for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy films, hopes to avoid similar problems with the DCU, potentially bringing familiar faces along.
At San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, confirmed conversations with Gunn about a specific DCU role, though she remained tight-lipped about details. She emphasized her desire to continue collaborating with Gunn.
Klementieff also reflected positively on her Guardians of the Galaxy experience, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding with the team's disbanding, her future involvement in the franchise remains uncertain.
Gunn subsequently confirmed these discussions on Threads, clarifying that the role is unrelated to his upcoming Superman film. While the specifics remain undisclosed, the news has sparked debate among fans, some criticizing Gunn's tendency to reuse actors, including family members. However, others argue that this practice is common in filmmaking. Ultimately, the success of Klementieff's potential DCU role will likely depend on her performance.
The Guardians of the Galaxy films are available on Disney+.
