New Call of Duty Tweet Sparks Outrage Amidst Ongoing Hacking Issues

Activision's latest Call of Duty promotional tweet ignites player fury. The tweet, promoting a new Squid Game-themed store bundle, has garnered over 2 million views and a torrent of negative responses. This backlash stems from widespread dissatisfaction with persistent in-game issues affecting both Warzone and Black Ops 6.

The controversy centers on Activision's perceived prioritization of monetization over addressing critical gameplay problems. Both titles are plagued by rampant cheating in Ranked Play, crippling server instability, and other bugs. Prominent players, including Scump, have publicly declared the franchise's current state as its worst ever.

The January 8th tweet, announcing the VIP bundle, proved to be a tipping point. Players, including prominent content creators like FaZe Swagg, accused Activision of being tone-deaf, highlighting the incongruity between promoting microtransactions and neglecting critical fixes. CharlieIntel echoed this sentiment, citing the broken state of Ranked Play. Many players, such as Taeskii, vowed to boycott store bundles until effective anti-cheat measures are implemented.

This discontent is further evidenced by a significant drop in Black Ops 6's Steam player count. Since its October 2024 release, over 47% of players have abandoned the game on this platform, a decline likely attributed to the persistent hacking and server problems. While data for other platforms is unavailable, the Steam figures suggest a broader trend of player attrition. The situation underscores a growing crisis for the Call of Duty franchise, fueled by a perceived lack of responsiveness from Activision to player concerns.
